PBPC Founder's Story:
David Fox

David Fox founded Peace by Piece Cleveland in 2012 and currently serves as the organization’s executive director. Although the organization was founded in 2012, David’s passion for helping others and improving the lives of community members extends back beyond the organization’s founding.

David was raised in Lakewood, Ohio by a single mother who worked as a chemical dependency counselor. Watching his mother, Jackie Fox, work tirelessly to raise him while also helping others through her work taught him the value of hard work, dedication, and service. His mother helped foster his own desire to help others, whether that means helping fellow community members receive the support and resources they need or recognizing a community need and striving to alleviate it. She taught him that through social work, you can uplift community members and, in turn, uplift the entire community.

David graduated from Lakewood High School in 2003 and went on to play Division 1 basketball at St. Bonaventure University. While there, he pursued a four-year degree in Sociology, recognizing it as the field best-suited to his interests. Following graduation, he played basketball professionally in Europe before returning home to the Cleveland area. During the years of his basketball career, he regularly worked at basketball camps for children, with some of them including working with children with disabilities. He found that the skills he needed to be a successful basketball player – hard work, determination, and resilience – applied perfectly within the field of social work. After the loss of his mother, he bounced around for a few years, but found a home and his true self when he started giving back to his community and helping underserved individuals. His mother served as a primary source of inspiration during these years, and he found a vocation in helping others and particularly in helping community members with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.

After founding Peace by Piece Cleveland in 2012, David has grown the organization from providing services to a single individual to providing services to hundreds of individuals throughout the greater Cleveland community. The organization has grown to offer an array of exceptional services, programs, and therapies to community members, striving daily to provide the support, resources, and advocacy necessary to make the lives of community members happier, healthier, and more fulfilling. In March of 2018, Peace by Piece Cleveland became a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, recognizing the non-profit path as the one most in accordance with the organization’s vision and the path necessary to continue growing and meeting the needs of the community members served.
David currently lives with his family in Lakewood, Ohio, which is the community he and his wife grew up in and one they know and love. He and his wife – Elizabeth – plan on raising their two young sons, Theo and Jack, within the greater Cleveland community and are committed to fostering in them the very same love and community responsibility that they themselves feel.
